Simon Richardson MBE prepares on Gran Canaria
It’s not without a certain amount of empathy, rather than sympathy for Simon Richardson MBE, that Cycle Gran Canaria aka yours truly, has decided to work with him to fulfill his training goals to reach his next target of the Paris to Swansea soiree next August.
Simon and his horrific story is well told, and therefore there’s no need to repeat it here, suffice to say he’s done more before and after his serious cycling accidents, then most able bodied cyclists will do in many lifetimes.
Were he in regalia, he would probably cant to one side with the weight of his Beijing Olympic medal haul and his World Record in the PA Kilo, and notwithstanding the MBE from er’ indoors.
So now back on terra firma, he starts his second major recovery and the long journey through the fog of pain to full recovery with the goal of Swansea although I’d much rather finish in Paris than Swansea after 340 miles, but nobody asked my opinion on that one, Swansea really?
Essentially Simon represents cycling for all of us, we can balance the effort we put in, the pain in the lungs, the jelly legs and jumpy eyes etc with the battle he faces to get back in shape, it’s all relative to each of us, and that’s why we want him to succeed, because his success is our success because we as cyclists will know how he feels.
Simon is here with me 22nd to 29th of April next year on Gran Canaria, if you have the time why not join us, it will be a grand week out!
