What They Said...
So Las Palmas is a large and diverse city with lots to see from a bicycle in the old quarter Vequeta as well as the beaches
that surround the isleta,a bicycle therefore is the best way to travel to the city beaches.
In addition to exploring the back streets of Las Palmas, the city beaches and bar hopping in the warm evenings,
Ray at Cycle Gran Canaria recommended some out of town cycling, including routes into the island's hinterland, which if your unfit (
like me!)can be quite an exertion as they involve quite tiring hill climbs. Nevertheless, I found the effort
well worth it for the views and the endorphin rush at the end!
The journey back is downhill, of course. Ray also recommended the coastal road, which is largely flat (in comparison a very sedate ride) and provides
the opportunity to see some 'off the beaten track' villages and some hidden restaurants that can turn out to be 'gems'.
Cycle Gran Canaria was very helpful in that they delivered the bicycle to and from my hotel (Hotel Madrid, which I would
recommend, particularly as it's a local institution with a lively bar and a good value menu al dia), and there were
some nice touches supplied with the bike, such as the waterproofs (I had inadvertently forgotten mine and the
fact that the Canaries are in the Atlantic), panniers, a helmet and even a bottle of mineral water. Julio
(Ray's colleague) was also helpful in recommending a local gym and yoga studio as well.
I had a great time and a large part of the fun and adventure was down to having a bicycle to get around.
Cycle Gran Canaria supplied a new Trek trekking bike, which was ideal for city and island cycling.
I would thoroughly recommend this company's services.
Hi Ray & Julio,
Thanks again for everything you arranged in Las Palmas, all the staff from the Fred Olsen Black Prince had a great afternoon with you.
The video and picture CD looks great too! Thanks for everything again!
I maybe able to rustle you another group together for our April call, I'll keep you posted.

I finished my world bike ride 6 months ago and needed to regain fitness in the hills and sunshine weather.
Quiet roads, smooth tarmac and sweeping views. The easiet guarentee of good riding this close to Europe, friendly locals
cheap accomodation and meals out. And the 2000 metre hill from sea level, fabulous work out and water stops up
to the top.
We could have went to Texas, but there are not enough hills and too cold.
Or we could have went to Puerto Rico, but the roads are awful, so really Gran Canaria
was a no brainer when we go testing our new bikes.
"This was a great tour! We got some exercise on really easy to ride bikes, filled our lungs with fresh air and got some fascinating cultural information on Las Palmas.
Great lunch and two funny but very professional guides.
And we had time for shopping before our ship sailed. Perfect day! Thanks guys! xx".
"We were glad of the chance to get straight to the nicest and best parts of the city.
They took us easily and safely along the front to old quarter,
no cars buses or taxis. My wife and I thought the whole 4 hours went very quickly but realised we seen an
enormous amount!
A great lunch too! Nice chats with the Guides. New bikes were nice too!"
"Es un sitio agradable, se esta muy fresquito después de un paseo en el que se pasa un
poco de calor aunque estemos en diciembre, pero eso es lo bonito.
Un sitio de lo mas agradable después de hacer la ruta por la orilla del mar,
llegas aquí y es de lo mas acogedor, muy bonito, me encanta."
"The Cycle Gran Canaria team were brilliant, both in terms of providing information prior to
arrival in GC and in the organisation and delivery of intrepid adventures suited for each individual
client.
Would definitely recommend them to any traveller seeking to leave the resort atmosphere
behind and discover the tranquility of the mountains beyond or the historical old town of
Las Palmas, and "The Real GC"
The well travelled intelligent guides provide a wealth of
information, not just on GC, but on many other subjects - I learned more about modern day
politics in 1 day than I thought possible!"
And Niamh Briody is the fastest thing on two or four legs in Cavan town!!
23 of Apollo's staff enjoyed a day out in Las Palmas - See the video on the movie page!
Thank you very much for a great day out on the bikes. It was really nice!
Everybody really liked it! Now they all know your great Las Palmas excursion and hopefully we'll succeed in selling lots of excursions!
Ciao, Fabio Fontana Bang,Apollo Gran Canaria Destination Manager
