What is Sustainable Tourism?

Sustainable tourism means protecting the natural environmental and ensuring that local people benefit from your visit. Cycle Gran Canaria takes simple but effective steps to reduce its’ consumption of energy during it’s Cultural City Bike Tour excursion.

We work also to ensure that local communities and economies benefit from your visit, and that our clients get time to spend absorbing the local culture and ultimately build lasting relationships for the future.

Consumption of Energy

With easy to use city trekking bikes, we allow more people to choose our excursion as the means to explore the local area. This choice also eliminates completely the need for coach traffic as part of the excursion.

By keeping the amount of actual travel on public roads to 2.2% of the total distance of the tour, we reduce considerably the effect of our passing, in terms of disruption.

Interaction with the Local Cultural Environment

By using city bikes and 2 guides, we allow the group to spend time where they wish, thus allowing them to build a better understanding of the local culture, establish relationships and ties for the future.

By visiting museums, churches and art galleries, we allow more people access to more points of interest than would otherwise be available in a normal excursion to this area.

This allows for tourists to respect the local culture and increase their awareness of the diverse culture and heritage that Las Palmas has to offer.

Contributing to the Local Economy

Cycle Gran Canaria help to ensure local investment by including a prepaid coffee stop and prepaid lunch stop, as well as including in the tour price any required entry fees to points of interest.

The restaurant we use, also buys its produce locally in the same food market we visit on the tour.

Cycle Gran Canaria also purchase all it’s tour requirements locally.

The Travel Foundation

"With the increasing debate over climate change and the drive to reduce carbon emissions, sustainable tourism gives us an opportunity to make a difference when we travel.

By doing simple things, we can help ensure that we protect the natural environment and offer maximum benefit to the communities who live in the places we all love to visit"
