The Gran Canaria Road Bike Camp

Gran Canaria’s reputation as a destination for winter training camps has accelerated in the last few years. For all the different levels of cycling ability and fitness, there’s a constant series of riding challenges. Gran Canaria is never mundane and is always diverse, that’s why so many riders keep coming back for more!

Even the fittest & strongest of riders who’ve been coming here for years, will admit to accepting there are still some routes they have yet to ride!

The Island Authorities too have seen the increase in cycling and have maintained all the island’s roads to an F1 standard! With average temp of 22º-24º, and wide blue skies all year round, it makes for the perfect cycling holiday.

For you we know the hotel is just as important as the riding, because you really spend more time there than at any other activity! So we have increased the quality of our offer , 2 levels of hotel,Gloria Palace 4* and Cordial Green Golf 2* Aparthotel.

At Gloria Palace we have included a free visit to their famous Thalasso to experience their 5 Senses package, the perfect way to relax after a long cycling tour. As always you have the very best range of new Cannondale, Specialised and Pinarello bikes to choose from every year, and this year we have the new disc brake models to choose from, though I’m still not convinced anyone needs them!!

Go to Bike Rental We’ve kept very competitive rates so that you know you’re getting the very best for your money. We do various promotions & offers during the season so please join the mailing list. Go to Dates & Prices

What’s the Road Riding like on Gran Canaria?

After the first week here, you’ll notice that you have ridden in very different landscapes every day, from arid treeless plains to heavily forested hills and through villages with agricultural settings. So there’s a strong sense that you’ll never ride it all, and that’s for the most part true!

The Island Authorities too have seen the increase in cycling and have maintained all the island’s roads to an F1 standard! With average temp of 22º-24º, and wide blue skies all year round, it makes for the perfect cycling holiday.

The climbs here are steep, but steep with plateau, then climb again, so you’ll see very regularly on your Garmin 7% to 10%, and then not infrequently 12% to 16%, even the odd 22% plus! As opposed to other Canarian destinations, where there’s just long drags of 4, 5 & 6%. So the interval type of riding here, hard easy, hard easy is very good for your aerobic capacity, as well building your climbing muscles and your climbing confidence, basically you’ll never balk at 11% again!

Having just come back from riding in the Pyrenees, where I was presented with giants like the Tourmalet where the max elevation gain is 1,404 meters and max gradient 10.2% on an 18km climb, compare that to Pico de las Nieves here, where the elevation gain is 2150m and max gradient is 18% ( Ayacata to Roquo Nublo), you can see that you have challenges, but to date 99% of our clients have stood at the top of Pico de las Nieves!

Chapeau!!
