Mountain Biking Routes on Gran Canaria
Cycle Gran Canaria in association with the Concejalía de Turismo, Villa de San Bartolomé de Tirajana
is happy to promote the excellent road and mountain bike riding that is available here on Gran Canaria.
The Concejalía de Turismo has done excellent work in developing these pdf downloads for
cycle tourists and we, as riders, appreciate them immensely.
Special Notice
More routes are imminent and we will put them here when available. In mountain biking these routes
and in particular the cobbled stone paths "camino reales", we ask that you take care to avoid damaging the
stonework that makes these paths unique, by reducing the need to lock up the brakes before ever corner.
Trail maintenance for mountain biking routes is still some time away, so it is up to us as riders to
maintain the trails by not damaging them.

Setting out from Maspalomas, you're on the quiet road to Ayaguares within minutes and bring your camera as this
routes rewards you with big scenery as you climb along the reservors. You'll end up in some deeply wooded areas at
Las Tederas, and you have the option to continue on up to the first road to meet, or do a uuey and come screaming
back down to Ayaguares.Use the guidebbok here, if you wish to go on.

Another excellant route easy to access from Maspalomas and with some jump off options to come back by
road. Heading and climbing as always towards the interior, great scenery, big county and a not too technical trail.
Easy for all to enjoy, plan for lunch in Fataga and you'll have had a great day out.

This route takes you along the coast at San Agustin and invites you to go inland at Gloria Palace Hotel, and
pop back out at Sioux City and continue on northwards.Personally I would avoid this detour because access & exit at Sioux City Wild West Theme Pk
can be episodic, and perhaps would be better to continue on and keep your rhythm. Turn inland at the Aero Club and
you'll be in the rocky quiet barrancos, following old trails amongst the cactus. Peak at the end of the trail and return
same way.

This is a longer version of the previous sworay, and you have the pleasure of visiting a completely wild ravine
which was the last stand of the Guanches against the British, and the scene of eventual Castillian control over the island.
It is also the track that the UCI used for the world cup marathon a few years back and you'll see why. Very fast, rocky
but with enough loose climbs to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Look forward to great views and a great day out.

This route starts with a long ride on the road to take you up to Soria where you will leave the road and circuit
one of the most beautiful areas on the island. Take your time here and enjoy the big country scenery. The same fast road
descent awaits you.

It is possible to join this with the Soria seen above in route 6 and with some time & motion study, it is certainly possibel albeit
with an early start. Find your way by road to La Candelilla Bar on the way to Ayacata, there's only one road so is easy to find. 2.3k on from
there is a right turn onto a trail.Follow the directions that take you in a big loop and back to start point. Finish
on the road or take one of the other off road routes back to Maspalomas.

This is my favorite and I would say that, because I made it! It follows the hiking trail north of Ayaguares to the point where
you need to carry/ride your bike for a spell up very steep rock paths, there are some very very technical single track sections, and
you'll wonder why you haven't seen another person for 3 or 4 hours, and wonder if you've been transported to another place, another planet.
You'll see the largest tree in the Canaries, unfortunately burnt down now, but preserved intact by the Forestry Commission, walk along
all 45m of it,and feel it's 140 years beneath your bare feet.
We can according to my Garmin promise you a 40km downhill, so it's important to eat often and stay focused. You'll do the last 20 km
along the coast with a strong tail wind and feel yourself being pushed along at 25kph.
This is a very special all day ride where endurance and an appreciation of the wilderness is a must.
